POOJA...WHAT IS SADNESS?

Sadness is the icy surface of the linoleum floor
Pressed against my monster thighs
As I fester in the corner of the school runway
Of lockers and rooms scattered with knowledge
That’s just collecting with dust
Because no one gives a damn to read them
To absorb like a yellow sponge
The verses of Pythagoras and Shakespeare
That washes across the pages like an ocean on the summer sand
I’m just watching the faces of my peers
All smiles, all laughter, not a care in the world
Their eyes stare past me like I’m nothing more
Than a cloud of air in a n early sunset
Or a ghostly spirit hovering over
The graves of those who had robbed their breath
Because they too were seen to be constructed by
The paint and brick of the gates we call ‘The school Hallway’
I am very well alive
I am who I am
And I know they can see me
But they choose to blend me with the concrete
Of the walls my back rests upon
I am a smudge left behind
By the pearly white eraser on a smooth sheet of paper
Scattered with slashes and doodles of flowers and hearts
They think I am ignorant
That I don’t understand what they’re doing
But the stabbing in my heart
Is enough for me to comprehend
I am alone
I am alone
I AM ALONE
And no one can hear the plead in my soul
Just to receive a smile
Or even a tap on the back
Just to know that I exist
Just to know that my heart pumps through my flesh
In this mad jungle of teens
Who think they’re the school’s Hippolyta
Because they have a thousand and one subjects
Who they think are their friends
But really are NOT
They were just looking for someone to be with
And were lucky enough to be accepted
I am not one of them
I am stuck here
In the corner of the hallway
Under water
Finding an open space to breath
The sorrow inside of me fighting to burst out
But I swallow it in
Because I cannot ruin the little armour I have left
It has been beaten, dented, and shamed of its shine
But what remains is my only hope
To not be devoured by the cheetahs that run
But no matter my strength
I can’t help but ask:
When you turn around and look me in the eye
BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE ME A HI?

PLEASE DON’T SEE ME...

He’s vicious
Filled with chocolate and almonds
Strutting around, hunting
Seeking for a timid soul
Shaking in their boots
As if a chilly summer breeze is among the air
But all in the atmosphere is sound
It is simply the sight
Of the familiar scene
Of the giant who lives atop of the beanstalk
Stomping dawn and dusk
Searching for his pure delight
We are peaceful
And we are honest
But his eyes burn
Of gory and fear
And all we can do
Is pray
And hope
That he doesn’t see us hiding

Song Writing*: I Ka Barra by Habib Koite
I am on an empty street
Dancing
Just dancing away
I’m not sure what I am doing
Or who may be watching me from their houses
Wondering if my mind has been ubducted
From who knows what
I just dance
And let the rhythem of my heart
Lead the way
I’m not sure what will come tomorrow
Or how I will deal with the problems of today
But right now
I am just dancing
Spinning
Running away from my life
And into my fantisies
Where there is no work
No responsibilities
Where I can just dance free
And sing my heart out
With my energy growing stronger and stronger
Instead of the other way around
I wish for a day
When we can all join together
And just dance the day away
And get along
Not worrying about the differences we all have
But instead just celebrating
What we all make up
A community
A world
A beautiful painting
That we can all make
Together

*NOTE: song writing is when I listen to a song and write what comes to mind at the moment I am listening.

THE WAYS OF THE STOMACH

Lucy was walking across the yard
She was feeling kinda dreary
Then a rush of fog swept in and
She found she couldn’t see clearly

She shut her eyes tight
And waved the fog away
She opened her eyes and jumped for joy
As she saw an ice cream sundae!

She began to run so she could engulf
That very large ice cream
But then she shot out of bed
It was only just a dream

So the moral of this poem
Is as clear as it can be
Make sure before you head to bed
You’re not feeling hungry!

Chocolate and roses (minus the roses)

Walks along the beach
While the sun bursts into a mosaic
Of orange, red, and pink.
Dinner on the top of the Eiffel tower
With the full moon up ahead
Shining so bright that no other source of light we need
Violins painting notes across the wind
To create a canvas of beauty
PA-LEASEE….
Love is a scam from the wedding business
Just a way to steal your wallet
Without you even noticing
Love is a way to diminish your brain cells
So that you could no longer think for yourself
When the diamond store tells you
She needs that 3 caret ring
Love is a big waste of time
Better spent eating cake
Drizzled in chocolate sauce
And topped off with a scoop of ice cream
Cause now that love is out of the way
You don’t need to watch your waistline

6:30 AM

A pool of silver
Shimmering in the white sunlight
I am blanketed by a frothy layer
Of dallops of whipped cream on a crystal blue plate
As soft as a mountain of rose petals
That brush along my cheek
Filling my skin with its subtle aroma
But then something hard and sharp
Pricks my skin
OW!
A thorn!
BANG BANG
The angels are angry
Banging their drums
CLASH BANG DONG DONG DONG
It’s a war
Between the moment and the future ahead
Only one action exists
That will end this dilemma
A button!
It lies so close beside me
Yet seems so far away
BANG DONG BEEP BEEP BEEP
Just a little farther…
CLASH DONG BEEP BEEP BEEP

I just have to STRETCH
CLASH DONG BEEP BEEP BEEP
And I hit it as hard as I can!
CLASH DONG BEEP-
All is quite in the room
Filled with mountains of homework and books
My eyes flutter shut
As weightless as a feather
That flew off the raven that soared over the horizon
As I am allowed just 5 more minutes
Of serenity
Thank god one invented the snooze button

The Sandbox

I am from miles
and miles of sand
which was only three meters really
And enclosed like a picture
but it was there I sat
alone
my hands submerged
in coins, leaves, keys, little soldiers
and miles
and miles of sand.

I couldn't go on the playground
'cause I'd have to run
to horribly have to huff hysterically
while the cats raced to the other end
Snickering under their breath
As I tried to run behind
To join in the world of happiness and belonging

they knew I would never keep up
my face was wet even when the sun smiled.

We were a population of a gazillion
and one
all the same, except me
the one
human
who's only friends
were the gazillion grains of sand.

It must be true
that opposites attract
for all the sand and I had in common
was the rain be our foe.

And all those who were like me
would never come near me.

I am from miles
And miles of sand
And although I have broken the gates

Home.

The Second Sunday of May

It was a cacophony of three dimensional forms
held together by an absurd jelly
that looked to be secreted from an alien.

Colours splashing from every corner I touched
as if I sat in the wig of the circus clown
that came for Lily's birthday
perhaps nothing stranger has ever been made.

The hands who crafted such a gift
stared at me with deep blue irises
waiting with anticipation
for a joyful reaction.

At most instances
I would have stared in disgust
with nothing more than a nod
and a clunk as it flew in the garbage
a smile grew thusly
on my visage.

For the every words that spoke "I love you Mommy"
Rested in my hands.

It’s all for the love…L-O-V-E (a lyric poem composed of MJ lyrics)

People always told me be careful what you do
When it’s close to midnight
They told me if you wanna be tough
You better do what you can
Because they don’t really care about us
I told them that I aint second to none
That the world is a better place for you and for me
But they are tired of injustice
Tired of the schemes
And they have not a clue when it’s all gonna end
But you can beat me, hate me
Cause you can never break me
And four walls won’t hold me tonight
So just show your face
In broad daylight
So I can get the message across
That yet you haven’t heard
I’m gonna make a change
For once in my life
But I can’t do it by myself
Love is a feeling
And since we are all a part of
God’s great big family
You know love is all we need

ON MY MOTORCYCLE

Time for moving on
I just gotta hold on
To the speed
Of the silver black phantom scooter
It’s my time
For the taste of freedom
To experience the roaring
I’m just gonna ride in style
Fast and furious
To get away
From all the pain
That walked by my side
I ride to beat all
Gaining speed as I go farther and farther
It tries to run behind
But it cannot catch up to me
Since I’m going many miles an hour
Im just going forward
Never looking back
Just heading for the future
Leaving the past behind
One block at a time

WHITE WORLD

The fluffy clouds in a crisp blue canvas
Looked like cotton balls
Soft to the touch
Yet rip apart
If you force them to
Looks like you can sit on them
But really you’ll fall through
It was there I saw
A snowflake
Ostracized in the heaven of blue
But wait
Look at its brothers and sisters
Following the little snowflake
Yelling ‘wait for us!’
The white light began to shine from the sun
It was there I see
A layer of untouched snow
As smooth as a fresh piece of paper
That has not a scratch in sight
A woman strands far away
Her eyes not daring to blink
The light in the seeker’s eyes
Show no sorrow
No joy
Simply calm
While I shiver in my torn boots
She’s still
She’s just
Simply calm
